A novel cryptoeconomic security basic called restaking is introduced by the EigenLayer protocol, which is based on Ethereum. The consensus layer can reuse ETH thanks to this primitive. In order to restaste their ETH or LST and provide cryptoeconomic security to more network apps, users who stake ETH natively or with a liquid staking token (LST) can choose to participate in EigenLayer smart contracts and receive extra incentives.

EigenLayer may introduce a token in the future; one does not currently exist. They recently debuted a Stage 1 mainnet. If early users launch their own token and perform testnet and mainnet acts, they could receive an airdrop.

Step-by-Step Guide:

Mainnet

  • Go to the EigenLayer main website.
  • Link your wallet to Metamask.
  • You will require stETH, rETH, and cbETH as they currently have Lido’s stETH, Rocket Pool’s rETH, and Coinbase’s cbETH pools.
  • Stake ETH on Lido to earn stETH, ETH on Rocket Pool to acquire rETH, and Coinbase to get cbETH.
  • Return to the pools at this point and stake your tokens.
  • Although they don’t currently have one, they may do so in the future. Therefore, if early users establish their own token and complete the mainnet operations, they may receive an airdrop.

Testnet

  • Go to the testnet page for EigenLayer.
  • Link your wallet to Metamask.
  • Navigate to Goerli on the network.
  • You will need stETH and rETH as they currently have Lido’s stETH and Rocket Pool’s rETH pools to try with.
  • Get Goerli ETH first by using this faucet.
  • To the Lido’s stETH token contract address “0x1643E812aE58766192Cf7D2Cf9567dF2C37e9B7F,” send Goerli ETH. Once your transaction is complete, Lido will automatically return your stETH.
  • To obtain Rocket Pool’s rETH, go to the testnet page and stake your Goerli ETH.
  • You will now possess testnet tokens for both Lido’s stETH and Rocket Pool’s rETH.
  • Return to the EigenLayer testnet page, choose the “Lido Staked Ether” pool, and stake your stETH after selecting the “Rocket Pool ETH” pool.
