BASIC SALARY<\/strong>: Up to £90,000 dependant on your relevant experience<\/p>\n BENEFITS:<\/strong> LOCATION:<\/strong> Bedford, Bedfordshire<\/p>\n COMMUTABLE LOCATIONS:<\/strong> Luton, Milton Keynes, Stevenage, Hitchin, Biggleswade, Sandy, St Neots, Huntingdon, Northampton, Wellingborough, Rushden, Royston, Cambridge.<\/p>\n JOB DESCRIPTION:<\/strong> Engineering Manager – Special Purpose Machinery, R&D, Design Engineer, Mechanical, Mechatronics<\/p>\n In this site-based role you will lead our multi-disciplined R&D and design teams team made up of mechanical, electrical and controls \/ test Engineers.<\/p>\n You will cover the development of new mains electric machinery and associated equipment \u2013 some projects will be true blank page from concept to completion, some projects will be re-engineering. You will need a broad mechatronics understanding, a flare for innovation, and you\u2019ll want to remain hands on as an engineer and a problem solver. Your team will rely on you to problem solve complex engineering issues and develop solutions for them.<\/p>\n You will be running 1-2 projects at any one time with an expectation for you to deliver those projects within 3-10 months.<\/p>\n R&D and design engineering, your team of engineers will cover final machine test, and FAT on customer sites, compile all BOM\u2019s, associated design documentation and adhere to CE\/UKCA compliance. Which you will drive.<\/p>\n Depending on the complexity of the project, once you have handed over to production after design freeze, a machine build can take us up to 8 weeks. All our components and parts are bought in and manufactured to our specification, but we do all the fitting, build and assembly on our site in Bedford.<\/p>\n Our machines value from £10,000 to £500,000; and we sell on average 10-20 machines a year.<\/p>\n YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/strong> Engineering Manager – Special Purpose Machinery, R&D, Design Engineer, Mechanical, Mechatronics<\/p>\n As our Engineering Manager, you will :<\/p>\n \u00b7 Lead a team of eight permanent engineers covering mechanical design \/ electrical design \/ controls engineering & machinery test YOUR BACKGROUND:<\/strong> Engineering Manager – Special Purpose Machinery, R&D, Design Engineering, Mechanical, Mechatronics<\/p>\n \u00b7 You will have previously led the design and development of industrial \/ special purpose machinery – managing a team of multi-skilled design engineers We\u2019re not hung up on your engineering qualifications \u2013 but you\u2019ll probably be degree educated with considerable experience in a similar role. A purely mechanical background probably won\u2019t be strong enough for you to lead and develop electrical and software engineers. Mechatronics would be perfect, but some combination of mechanical, electrical and software – maybe through education and further training etc.<\/p>\n I would welcome applications from candidates currently working within the development of special purpose machinery in such roles as: Project Manager, R&D Manager, Design Manager, Senior Project Manager, Chief Technical Officer, Engineering Manager, Technical Manager, Technical Director, Head of Design, Industrial Design, Innovation Manager, Automation Manager, Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer etc<\/p>\n THE COMPANY:<\/strong><\/p>\n We are a well-established manufacturer of slitting, rewinding, spooling, and automatic winders. We turn over circa £3m per annum and employ 16 people. \u00b7 Any exposure you have to converting \/ rewinding machinery would be advantageous \u2013 but we don\u2019t expect you to have it \u2013 just a solid design background in special purpose machinery<\/p>\n
