Vehicle Mechanic, Edinburgh Airport

The role of the Vehicle Mechanic consists of the following:
- Identify, inspect and assess Avis Budget vehicles for repair and maintenance including Transmission, Engine, Braking, Suspension, Engine Management Systems, Auto Electrics and Vehicle Security, Tyres, Trim, General Fitting and Cosmetic Bodywork Repairs.
- Carry out effective mechanical, electrical and cosmetic body repairs to industry standards and times.
- Diagnose vehicle issues using standard engineering methods and using electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Carry out Manufacturer Scheduled servicing on a wide range of vehicle makes and models.
- Manage repairs and maintenance on Avis Budget systems so that all vehicles are tracked as out of service or back in service.
- Collaborates with immediate colleagues and the wider Avis Budget group (including onsite third-party suppliers) on making sure that best practise is followed and always used.
- Looks for and identifies efficiencies in the day-to-day activities in the workshop environment and feeds back opportunities to the Workshop Manager.
- Ability to work across all days of the week depending on peak supply and demand for rental vehicles and to work on a shift system where appropriate.
Education & Professional Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid UK driver’s license
- Ability to effectively communicate and explain necessary vehicle maintenance and repair work to customers
- Automotive qualification of at least an IMI Level 1 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or its equivalent, such as City & Guilds

- Proficient in handling various types of commercial vehicles and skilled at multitasking with different tasks.

Technical/Busniess Skills & Knowledge:
- Car and Van repair techniques and methods
- Diagnostic equipment experience
- Current vehicle repair methods
- ICME and Glass’ workshop times knowledge
