We have an exciting permanent opportunity for a TOTEX Technician – Plant Protection to join the Network Maintenance Pipelines team. As a TOTEX Technician – Plant Protection you will contribute to operational assurance specifically in plant protection, landowner liaison and development queries across the network.You will be expected to contribute to a cost-effective and customer-focused service by carrying out work across all maintenance processes, which may be of an individual specialist nature, as a team leader or as co-ordinator of a number of teams and or individuals.
Your key accountabilities and responsibilities at a TOTEX Technician – Plant Protection will include:
- Co-ordinate work for teams/individuals engaged in the operation and maintenance of the gas transportation system
- Receive instructions and requests, plan and organise resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently
- Manage annual and routine maintenance lettering to landowners
- Liaise with landowners and tenants whose land NGN assets pass through to ensure regular contact is maintained and to enable maintenance activities to take place
- Participate in the provision and co-ordination of the delivery of site works requirements including but not limited to aerial surveillance, overcrossing/river crossing inspections, line walking activities, marker post replacement, scrub clearance, managing RDoC (reduced depth of cover)
- Respond to plant protection queries both internal and external, participate in standby and undertake testing, survey, detection and diagnostic work which may be of a complex nature, reporting results, ensuring safety and taking appropriate action in order to maintain the transportation system and associated equipment.
- Work toward Competent Person/Authorising Engineer for; Deep Excavations, Critical Safe Dig practices, All types of SCO permits, To be the originator (write) routine operations, To be the originator (write) non – routine operations, Lead on innovation and best practice through participation on external working groups e.g. UKOPA
What we are looking for as a TOTEX Technician
- You will be a self-motivated individual capable of planning your own activities and be comfortable with lone working in and out of hours
- The ability to independently and effectively communicate with colleagues, customers and members of the public as you will be working within a customer, people and team orientated environment
- Ability to work with computers which will include keyboard skills, NGN systems, Microsoft Office, and mobile applications
- You will possess experience of working within a safety focussed environment and have a sound understanding of safe working practices and procedures with a current Gas Network Safety Passport
- Full driving licence
- If you have working knowledge of NGN standards relating to plant protection and in particular the requirements for >7 bar pipelines laid out in IGEM/TD/1 this would be beneficial
- You will need to possess an IOSH, ILM or National Certificate, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification with a working knowledge of the New Roads and Streetworks Act (NRSWA)
- Experience of managing others would be desirable but is not a necessity
