About your new role
Our Insolvency and Recoveries team is experienced in handling all kinds of insolvency and recoveries work nationally. We act on behalf of large corporates, owner managed businesses, public bodies, insurers, professional practices, regulatory bodies and private individuals. We also act on behalf of insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, litigation funders, fixed charge receivers, directors and other stakeholders. Members of all levels of qualification across the team regularly deal with complex, high profile and sensitive issues across a broad range of matters (both contentious and non-contentious) with far reaching implications as well as regulated and unregulated debt recovery from individuals and businesses. The team and many within it are recognised in both Chambers and Legal 500.
This role sits within the Recoveries section of the team, undertaking B2B debt recovery work and public sector recoveries from individuals and businesses.
Reporting to the Team Manager, and working alongside the Consultant currently undertaking the role, the successful candidate will inherit/develop their own case load of B2B and public sector money only and insolvency claims, with limited supervision as/when appropriate. The role offers extensive client contact and the opportunity to acquire/enhance advocacy skills on telephone/in person hearings. Supervision and training of junior team members is also a role requirement.
Main duties and responsibilities (subject to skills and experience) include:
- Managing own case load of money only and insolvency cases, including pro-active management of cases with limited supervision.
- Providing supervision to members of the team undertaking similar work.
- Conduct litigation including issuing claims, obtaining judgments, enforcing the same and dealing with disputed and defended actions, including advocacy.
- Conducting insolvency cases, from drafting statutory demands, bankruptcy and winding up petitions, through to hearings and advocacy.
- Liaising with clients, experts, witnesses, counsel and other parties as well as preparing and drafting detailed reports, correspondence, advice and court documents.
- Attendance at client, expert, counsel and witness meetings.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant deadlines, quality measures and key performance indicators.
- Ensuring compliance with client service level agreements, relevant policies and procedures.
- Supporting business development initiatives.
- Completion of management information.
- Achieving set targets/KPIs.
- Working in accordance with Weightmans’ values.

- 0-2 years PQE or equivalent.

Desirable
- Previous experience handling money only and insolvency cases
- Previous experience providing supervision to junior fee earners.
- Higher Rights of Audience qualification, or intention to become Solicitor-Advocate
