The opportunity

We are looking for an individual to lead the QBE Re Pricing team in London. QBE Re is a global reinsurer writing a diversified portfolio of property, casualty, speciality and life business. Working closely with the underwriters, you will be working on case pricing, developing pricing tools and producing actuarial studies to ensure appropriate business decisions are made using the best possible tools and information available. You will be joining the global coordination of QBE Re Technical team leading global projects to align pricing work to QBE Re strategic priority.

Your new role

  • People management: lead a team of 3 highly qualified pricing analysts and actuaries
  • International: join the global technical coordination group to drive global analytics projects
  • Strategy: Develop a pricing strategy working with the Portfolio Manager to deliver profitable business growth.
  • Case pricing & reviews: perform actuarial – and peer review – pricing/risk assessment of complex reinsurance treaties of high materiality for all lines of business
  • Pricing tools: develop and maintain pricing tools and rates and ensure rating methods adopted by the business are robust and valid
  • Portfolio analyses: perform portfolio/market analyses to provide insights for the underwriting teams and other stakeholders
  • Understand and keep up to date with your pricing skills and market knowledge with the support from QBE on your career development
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to improve customer focus, in particular with:
    • Underwriting teams
    • Reserving, Capital Modelling, Cat Modelling, Data Science

About you

  • Experienced Pricing Actuarial background, with proven track record in pricing management in a high volume business
  • Effective communication skills and ability to persuade and influence others
  • Effective people management skills
  • Knowledge of reinsurance and London Market
  • Ability to drive change and lead transformation projects
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret numerical data
  • Strong skills in Excel and preferably other analytical tools, e.g. Python, SAS, Visual Basic, to develop sophisticated models to support our pricing needs
  • Knowledge of industry best practice in actuarial analysis, modelling and underwriting (preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and to organise your own work to meet deadlines
  • Desire to learn and develop new skills and knowledge
