Job description
As a Optical Assistant, you will be responsible for providing eye care to patients in their homes and care homes. You will work closely with optometrists to provide pre-testing and dispensing, and you will also be responsible for delivering, fitting, and adjusting prescription glasses.
Key Accountabilities
- Adhere to the GOC standards of practice
- Follow professional and sector guidance
- Create a safe working environment
- Communicate effectively with patients
- Follow and attain set KPIs
- Explain procedures clearly
- Provide advice and support to patients with sight loss
- Confirm understanding of recommendations and test outcomes
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with central support and clinical staff
- Complete all statutory and mandatory training
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Up-to-date CPD through events
- Awareness of regulations and working knowledge of latest industry updates
Skills & Experience
- Effective and flexible communicator
- Use of digital systems and attention to detail
- Confident driver with at least two years driving experience
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
- Pragmatic approach when problem solving
- Confidence in all aspects of dispensing and pre-testing
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Organization and ability to multitask
- Working within own clinical knowledge and limitations
