Progressive Engineering and a Global Name in Engineering are looking to recruit a Manufacturing Operations Manager on a permanent basis for their Engineering & Manufacturing HQ in the Stevenage area, owing to succession planning for 2025-26+.

Reporting into the UK Managing Director, the Manufacturing Operations Manager will be a key part of the Business Leadership Team, responsible for the Manufacturing Operations Leadership, Safety and Environment & Strategic Focus of the Manufacturing Operations Function (comprising of 7 direct reports / circa 200+ indirect reports, across multiple Value Streams).

Specifically, the Manufacturing Operations Manager will be responsible for:

  • Lead all day to day manufacturing and operational support activity on-site at the large manufacturing facility near Stevenage (Total Headcount circa 240+)
  • Provide direct leadership to 7 direct reports and a total team of over 200, working to build a rewarding and motivating site culture, compelling development plans for all associates and a robust pipeline of succession for all critical roles.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the entire business.
  • Identify, recommend and drive investments in machinery, plant and technology to create and sustain a world class manufacturing facility which supports our business model to be the preferred partner for our customers.
  • Drive site performance to deliver on all agreed KPI’s across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Growth in that order, working closely with sales, supply chain, production planning, manufacturing and logistics teams to prioritize resources accordingly to satisfy our customers’ needs and our targeted level of business performance.
  • Ensure the long term continuity of site operations by managing site security and balancing the investment in new plant and machines / equipment with the maintenance of a large range of existing machinery.
  • Establish and deliver against KPIs for Health, Safety and Environment across the- ensuring accuracy of reporting to relevant internal and external stakeholders and authorities.
  • Through a dedicated on site team of Health and Safety professionals ensure ongoing legal compliance across the Group.
  • Co-ordinate with external organizations to have audited against Health, Safety and Environmental standards and then take the lead on the closure any corrective actions / recommendations to ensure that remains compliant with all relevant legislation across all of its facilities.

For this Manufacturing Operations Manager role, my client is looking for a Manufacturing Operations Manager with the following Experience & Qualifications:

  • Degree Qualified (Ideally Engineering or similar)
  • Prior Operations Management experience (Site Operations Manager, Manufacturing Site Lead, Head of Manufacturing Operation etc) within a unionised Manufacturing environment, leading a large manufacturing teams (Circa 100-150+) across multiple value streams
  • Experience of effectively leading an Operations & Manufacturing Function to support and meet wider business objectives
  • Proven track record of driving Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • High energy, natural leader with ability to drive collaboration across multiple teams.
  • Experience managing HSE teams and ensuring legislative compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Resilient and with high levels of energy.
  • Strong commercial acumen with ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of financial reporting
  • Strong understanding of how to influence results through the delivery of site KPI’s.
