Overview

Part of the global tax team, the team based in London works closely with our US tax colleagues and our global finance teams. Our team is responsible for planning and strategic support, direct and indirect tax compliance and tax accounting for the company and their subsideries.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting in to the Head of Tax, this individual will have responsibility for the day to day management of the indirect tax compliance and reporting processes. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that global VAT and IPT returns are filed accurately and in a timely manner, thereby ensuring the company is in compliance and exposures and penalties are minimised.
  • Maintaining indirect tax process documentation, understanding end to end processes and ensuring control processes are operating effectively in order to support internal risk control sign off procedures and the obligations of the Senior Accounting Officer.
  • Proactively identifying and supporting improvements to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of indirect tax reporting and the tax account reconciliation processes.
  • Ensuring that UK VAT returns accurately reflect the terms of the group’s latest agreed VAT Partial Exemption Special Method and satisfy HMRC’s Making Tax Digital requirements.
  • Relationship management and regular engagement with external VAT and IPT consultants.
  • Being responsible for and monitoring UK VAT group membership and global VAT and IPT registrations.
  • Ensuring that the Head of Tax is made aware of any indirect tax issues, exposures or opportunities.
  • Supporting the business in the identification and mitigation of UK/international VAT exposures, This includes indirect tax due diligence on acquisitions and planning for disposals and restructuring.
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of UK and International VAT law changes and related developments.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong technical VAT knowledge.
  • Practical experience with VAT/IPT compliance and reporting processes.
  • VAT experience in the financial services industry or experience of providing advisory services to clients in the financial services industry is desirable.
  • Professional tax or accounting qualifications would be preferred but not essential
  • Be a collaborative individual who works well within a coordinated global function.
  • Be a strong communicator with the ability to share complex ideas with others in a way that can be easily understood.
  • Must be well organised and self-motivated with a proven track record of delivery.
