The Health, Safety, and Environmental Advisor (HSEA) is instrumental in ensuring the implementation of robust Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) processes. This role focuses on creating a safe and healthy work environment for all employees while ensuring full compliance with applicable legislation and statutory provisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Assessment: Monitor workplace health and safety risks and hazards, initiating a proactive schedule of risk assessment activities.
  • Documentation Management: Create and maintain documentation and policies for health, safety, and environmental management systems.
  • Risk Mitigation: Advise management and employees on minimizing workplace risks and hazards.
  • Environmental Advocacy: Provide guidance on environmental issues, including promoting energy conservation, sustainability, recycling, and waste management.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents related to pollution, waste contamination, and waste management.
  • Committee Coordination: Coordinate and chair the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Committee, preparing and distributing meeting minutes.
  • Incident Resolution: Ensure prompt investigation of accidents and near misses, identifying and addressing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Occupational Health Support: Support the provision of occupational health services, including return-to-work interviews and risk assessments.
  • Training: Train employees in managing, monitoring, and enhancing environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Workplace Inspections: Conduct workplace inspections, including monitoring and surveillance activities.
  • Auditing: Host customer and third-party audits of management systems and assist with internal audit programs.
  • Reporting: Regularly report key metrics in health, safety, and environmental matters, establishing annual target goals and objectives.
  • Emergency Management: Manage emergency procedures, including fire alarm drills, unplanned evacuations, and emergency response teams.
  • Legislation Monitoring: Monitor changes in health, safety, and environmental legislation, updating legal registers and management systems for compliance.
  • Budget Planning: Develop annual budget plans for necessary resources related to the role.
  • Customer Liaison: Collaborate with the Sales Department to provide necessary documentation and declarations to customers.
  • Fire Department Coordination: Liaise with fire departments as required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • NEBOSH Certificate: Possess a minimum NEBOSH Certificate.
  • Operational Experience: Ideally, have experience in operational health and safety management, particularly in electronics manufacturing/design environments for SMEs.
  • ISO Standards: Familiarity with ISO14001 and ISO45001 Environmental, Health, and Safety Standards and associated Management Systems.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Possess extensive knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation, with a proven ability to translate requirements into effective, compliant, and pragmatic plans, systems, and procedures.
  • Organisational Skills: Be confident, motivated, highly organized, and proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Communication: Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including the ability to confidently liaise with authorities and external bodies.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Exhibit strong interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills.
  • Audit Training: Ideally, have internal audit training.
  • Mental Health First Aider: Mental Health First Aider qualification or willingness to work towards it is preferred.
