Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join their team in Northampton. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the development of internal control processes, significantly improving the control environment and risk management within the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring timely completion of all external audits and regulatory returns, as well as improving month-end reporting processes. This role requires a strong leader with excellent interpersonal skills, who can provide guidance and support to junior members of the team.

What you’ll do:
As a Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of our client’s organisation. You will supervise and review the financial month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Your leadership skills will be crucial in managing your direct reports and assisting junior team members. You will also be instrumental in developing strategies to streamline month-end processes and enhance reporting outputs. Your expertise in accounting standards will be utilised in maintaining Group accounting policies in line with FRS 102. As a key contact for external auditors, your communication skills will ensure smooth completion of statutory accounts. Your commitment to risk management will be evident as you support the design and implementation of a robust control environment.
* Supervise and review the financial month-end close process, focusing on meeting reporting deadlines and reviewing journal postings.
* Lead and manage three direct reports, providing assistance to junior team members when required.
* Develop plans to reduce the time taken to complete the month-end process and reporting outputs.
* Identify and assist with the implementation of systems and processes to automate and develop finance controls strategy.
* Maintain Group accounting policies in line with FRS 102, keeping abreast with changes in accounting standards.
* Act as key contact for external auditors, ensuring timely completion of statutory accounts for group legal entities.
* Support the design and implementation of a robust control environment focused on risk management and strong internal control framework.
* Deliver new ways of working, challenging the status quo through initiative, creativity, and innovative thinking.
What you bring:
* ACCA/ACA qualification with over five years post-qualifying experience.
* Well-developed leadership skills with management experience.
* Technical accounting expertise with knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP.
* Experience from a regulated financial services
* Track record of implementing best-practice financial policies, controls, and processes.
* Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven technical skills, including project work and process improvement.
