About Surrey

Our Children’s Services are working towards becoming a high-performing local authority, evidenced by our improved Ofsted rating in March 2022 and the fact we are now starting to realise the positive impacts of the Family Safeguarding practice model in action with reductions in the number of children subject to child protection plans. We are working hard to develop our progress and this is driven by the efforts of every member of our social care workforce from our business support and family support workers to our frontline practitioners through to leadership- all working together to create the right conditions for a positive culture and well-supported workforce.

About our Adolescent Safeguarding Service

Our Family and Adolescent Safeguarding service is overseen by Assistant Directors- Catherine Watkins and Fiona Wraith who have co- responsibility for our Family Safeguarding Model, Child In Need, as well as pre and court proceedings.

Our Adolescent Safeguarding teams work with families predominantly with children and young people aged 12 plus where issues such as contextual safeguarding, neglect or family breakdown may be impacting their lives. We aim to help parents tackle the challenges that impact their parenting, working together with families to build on strengths and enable them to make positive changes so that children and young people can remain in their care.

Across our Family and Adolescent Safeguarding teams there is a shared resource of adult mental health workers, domestic abuse practitioners and officers, and substance misuse workers, working with families to provide integrated practice. This approach promotes the sharing of different perspectives to create a more informed understanding of how to help families and create an attainable plan to support them.

As a Team Manager in Surrey you’ll play a critical role in supporting social workers and helping your service manager to ensure the service you team provides is forward thinking, responsive and meets the diverse needs of our children and young people.
