Behaviour Mentor

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to join a mainstream primary school with a small SEN provision attached. This position is specifically for Year 3 students with SEN needs (EG: ASD) and is available for a January start.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with ASD to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. Your responsibilities will include working closely with the school’s SEN team, class teachers, and parents to develop individualized behaviour plans, implementing strategies to manage challenging behaviour, providing one-on-one support to students in need, and promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep understanding of ASD and its impact on children’s behaviour and learning. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to establish positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Experience in implementing behaviour management techniques and working within a SEN setting is highly desirable.

Behaviour Mentor Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with ASD: You have prior experience supporting students with ASD, understanding their unique needs and challenges. Knowledge of evidence-based strategies and interventions for supporting individuals with ASD is essential.
  • Strong behaviour management skills: You are skilled in implementing behaviour management techniques and have a proven track record of positively managing challenging behaviours. You can establish clear boundaries, provide consistent support, and promote positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Collaboration and teamwork: You can effectively collaborate with the SEN team, class teachers, and parents to develop and implement individualized behaviour plans. You are a team player, willing to share insights and work collaboratively to provide the best possible support to students.
  • Empathy and patience: You possess a genuine empathy for students with ASD and can demonstrate patience when working with them. You understand the need for individualized approaches and can adapt your support to meet each student’s specific needs.
  • Excellent communication skills: You have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, allowing you to effectively liaise with students, parents, and colleagues. You can provide feedback, report on progress, and establish open lines of communication to foster a supportive partnership.
  • Relevant qualifications: Although not essential, qualifications such as a degree in psychology, counselling, or education would be advantageous.
