THE BUSINESS
Westray are delighted to be working with our client based in (Durham) who are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join their accounts team. The role requires an enthusiastic candidate who enjoys being part of a small team. Tasks and thus a typical day will be varied with the successful candidate being able to work across a range of tasks in priority order.
THE ROLE
- General administration
- Understanding that you may undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business
- Post day-to day transactions through the ERP system
- Update daily headroom sheet and monitor cash balances daily
- Timely processing of payments/cheques in from debtors
- Completing bank reconciliations including petty cash
- Verifying balances in account books and rectifying discrepancies
- Accurate processing and manipulation of data, to compile the weekly reports, whilst sense-checking against budgets and averages
- Processing supplier statements and responding Supplier queries
- Entering financial information into appropriate software programs
- Support in the completion of monthly reporting documents
- Support during external audits
- Updating monthly accounts support files and support with month end reconciliations
- Raise and send sales credit notes
- Assisting the finance department and senior accounting staff members with various tasks, including cost analysis and records
- Understanding that you may undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business
- Debtor chasing
- Credit limit reviews and management
- Ad hoc sales invoicing (Inc. scrap metal/internal)
- Residue invoicing and self-billing weekly
- Competitor and supplier accounts analysis
- Support with the year-end analysis, including midyear reviews
- Support the weighbridge function as and when required
- Cross training within the department on Purchases, log intake and other areas
THE PERSON
- Work in small accounts team, where jobs may be shared depending on workloads, to ensure timely reporting and support to Managers where requested.
- Strong communication and relationship skills
- Motivated and enthusiastic
- Advanced computer uses especially in Excel and Outlook
- Outstanding attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise tasks with effectiveness and efficiency
- Ensure cleanliness within department
- Ensure you wear all the required PPE provided
- Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported and assist in the investigation where necessary
- You might also have, Payroll experience and experience in handling accruals and prepayments
