We have an exciting opportunity for an Accountant to work for Surrey and Sussex Police.
This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
PLEASE NOTE DUE TO THE POLICE VETTING CRITERIA YOU MUST HAVE RESIDED WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. UNFORTUNATELY ANYTHING LESS THAT THIS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements.

As we drive forward to achieve Finance Excellence in Policing you can be part of changing both our culture and systems and processes. This will include working across Finance, Estates and Change Delivery.
This postholder will advise on the capital elements of business cases, monitor capital costs and act as the Capital finance lead through our governance process.
The post holder will be required to work with clients across both Surrey and Sussex sites and therefore will be expected to travel to locations in both counties as part of this role.
Key Responsibilities
Working alongside other members of the finance team you will produce high quality internal and external financial reporting services, which will include taking a key role in the production of the annual statements of accounts. Other responsibilities include providing expertise advice to the Force on matters such as VAT, capital accounting, financial controls, and interpretation of financial regulations and managing a small team of Assistant Accountants.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you must have a solid financial background as a qualified CCAB accountant with relevant experience of working within a large and complex financial environment; with specific knowledge and experience of fulfilling a budget management role and clear experience of self-motivation and workload prioritisation.
You will also have the ability to analyse complex financial issues and a record of developing and implementing strategies to address financial issues. In addition to being CCAB qualified you will also be supported to achieve a CIPFA Diploma in Finance Business Partnering.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to explain complex technical accounting to non-finance stakeholders are essential for this role, alongside good organising and influencing skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to plan workloads and support others to ensure that all tasks are completed to the required timetable.
Comprehensive knowledge of the CIPFA Code of Practice on Local Authority Accounting in the United Kingdom.
Proven ability to meet tight deadlines within unpredictable and demanding environments whilst delivering high quality products.
Experience of financial management including capital budget preparation and capital accounts close down.
