Supporting a Lead File Handler with a caseload Mesothelioma contribution claims. These will be a mix of both pre -litigated and litigated claims pursuant to the Civil Liability (Contribution) Act 1978. Recoveries will need to be sought from both employers and occupiers where necessary.
The role will involve factual and legal investigations, restoration of corporate entities, issuing proceedings where necessary-standing in the shoes of a Claimant. The individual will need a sound knowledge of the IDCWP guidelines – as defendants will be other insurer clients. The caseload will include a mix of cases on behalf of all insurer clients and corporates where recoveries are required.
The role will be client facing with the opportunity to grow client relationships. The individual will have the opportunity to grow a small team focusing on a recovery product for insurer clients.

Key Accountabilities
- To undertake initial steps on a file including sending out acknowledgements, and procedural documents
- Conduct such investigations as are appropriate and as may be delegated from time to time by the Lead File Handler)
- Carry out standard procedural tasks, e.g. Instructions to lead counsel and experts
- Progress so as to be able to carry out non-standard procedural tasks, including drafting non-standard court documents
- Assists in collating key data and checking accuracy of group register containing 4000 claims, Where appropriate, review medical records and take witness statements and disclosure
- To assist the Lead File Handler(s) in progressing the file in the most appropriate manner
- Undertake Legal Research: attend client presentations; take training notes; attend court with counsel; attend conferences
- Assist in preparing for trial on lead cases, including collating documentation and preparing extensive trial bundles
- Manages a small caseload of high value (under supervision) military deafness claims with the objective of working towards a higher financial authority

- Adaptable; follows the direction of the LFH and prioritises own activity on a daily basis
- Scale and Scope • Typically expect 6.6 chargeable hours per day, to be agreed at team/local level
- Supports one or more Lead File Handler(s)
- Works on the case load of the Lead File Handler
- Complete delegated tasks within time frame agreed with Lead File Handler
Working Hours
35 hours per week Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. Primary location for this role is Coventry
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills and Attributes
- Ideally a degree in Law/LPC Graduates/ILEX trained
- Knowledge of Disease essential
- Litigation experience is essential
- Previous experience of handling own caseload or assisting "lead File Handlers" with their case-loads
- Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking
IT Literate
- Proficient in MS Office
- Experienced in using a Claims/Case Management system
Technical knowledge and Experience to be developed
- Basic Guidelines for court/CPR incl. completion of court forms
- Client SLAs • Building deeper experience in Disease strategic litigation
- Basic claim and file handling skills
- Investigation techniques
- Progression to a more detailed understanding of CPR
