Assistant Cook – Aurora Boveridge

Location: Cranborne, Dorset

Hourly Rate: £11.30 – £12.20

Annual Salary:  £20,109.84 – £21,798.00 (FTE £23,504.00 – £25,376.00)

Hours: 40 hours a week (8 hours per day) – some flexibility on hours – Term time only

The main purpose of the role:

Our support service teams are an essential pillar in enabling our children and young adults to achieve their full potential.

The role of the Assistant Cook is to prepare, cook and present home cooked food from scratch using fresh ingredients where possible and assisting the Cook with menu planning, to provide nutritionally balanced food, within budget.

With a strong emphasis on Health & Safety, you’ll be expected to ensure that the catering areas are kept clean and tidy and in collaboration with the Cook, ensure that our food service is delivered in a professional, friendly and hygienic manner.

You will undertake tasks assigned to you regarding food preparation, cooking, cleaning, serving, and completion of Health and Safety paperwork.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidate qualities:

  • Relevant regulations and standards for the catering environment.
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and/or special needs insofar as they impact upon the support services to be provided including management of individual needs (health, social etc.) and challenging behaviours.
  • Key aspects of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a range of internal and external people, verbally and in writing
  • An enthusiasm for cooking, no formal training required
  • Special diets and allergens
